Meet India the land where the rich, the influential,we the educated majority -the Hindu, the Muslim, the Christian ,the Sikh choose to turn a blind eye to the happenings around us just because we cant be bothered .

The govt is forced to listen to those who make the maximum noise. The hullabaloo over 26/11 by the rich, the vocal educated upper classes, the sms polls, the divisive public discussions reached the govt. And the Govt in sheer fright kept coming up with assurances, allegations against Pakistan…hammering away like a carpenter showcasing his skill. The affected common man is still unassured about receiving compensation let alone justice.Well you see he had no SMS poll to alert the government.

The Bhopal Union Carbide case fought by the weaker sections of the society languishes despite evidence, years of court orders just to get a fugitive extradited. The survivors still suffer, their 25 year old struggle, their candlelight vigils a grim testimony of the failure of the government.

Our govt screams and blames Pakistan for harbouring theheads of terrorist organisations.Pakistan a beleagured state on the verge of a breakdown with a raging war on one side, the Taliban threatening to take over on the other side ,pressurised by USA complies with our demands at times and we exult.

We talk of steps being taken in the right direction,of making headway.Justice being executed Yippppeeee!!!!Hang Kasab we shout.

What about Jagdish Tytler? What about Warren Anderson??Do they get relegated to the margins because the Sikh riots and the Bhopal gas leak were problems that affected only the non influential????Or was it because the opressors were all powerful Goliaths we could not dream of conquering?

We don’t get too bothered about these cases because there are no videos to remind us of the horrors inflicted, nobody cares any longer to have prolonged discussions…they dont generate TRP s you see..it makes no business sense…

We demand to get Warren Anderson extradited very feebly. How can we raise our voices against the super power that’s letting us lope by its side,to pick up bits and pieces that fall from their table? That doesn’t make economic and political sense at all..

We make a Sikh the Prime Minister. The party that had gone on a rampage in 1984 has made amends. Can cutting off a leg or a hand be compensated by naming the orthopaedic ward after the injured?

Well our markets are doing well.We have a good name with our erstwhile colonisers and present masters…we ll make money ,our economy ll stay strong. But as a nation today where are we ?This was definitely not what the makers of our nation had dreamt of.Our constitution talks of protecting the interests of the weaker sections,of treating the unequals unequally…..”where the head is held high and the mind is without fear……”

We today are back where it all began ..infighting,ourRajas and Sultans forced to bow down before the foreigners because we can not exist any longer without their support in trade, witout their political protection. The common man still oppressed…the army of the deaf-mute has to struggle to make ends meet.We have been morally taken over. The 62 nd year of freedom?????Are we a free country????

  1. Well written rits. But see the reason there is so much noise over 26/11 attacks is
    1. It affected a big chunk of the hi society people (yes, they only shout and south Mumbai's voting % is there to be seen to speak about their genuine concerns)
    2. Media is more active than ever before. Had an event like '84 or Bhopal happen now, we would have the same noise. Just like the rattling we have for Gujarat cos it happened when the media was all awakened

Its another issue that the weak do not get justice. How about the women getting molested last year on new year's eve? countless many living a life of abuse thanks to domestic violence. Farmer suicides in AP and Maharashtra? But its not all that bad. Things are improving. My only complain is the countless candle light marches. senseless and such a wasteful gimmick.

  2. Hi..late reply but none the less..i agree with what you say.Let me cite a few reasons
1.The media is untrustworthy. It has vested interests on its part.Ever wondered why media hectically reports on an issue for a short time and then suddenly stops??There s a lot of behind the screen politics.Negotiations take place between the business houses and media agencies.
2.Media has now become more of a business rather than a responsible profit making service.Wasteless gimmicks yes..its just to ensure greater advertising opportunities,to wear the mask of being "responsible"
Our media is unethical.Just take the case of Aarushi Talwar. The entire family was vilified baselessly.
Yeah but regulation is not really an option. The bad goes hand in hand with certain good effects like the attention being given to khap panchayats. You cannot have the cake and eat it too..sigh..
